A Brief Guide to Construction Jobs

Kylie Cosmetics was founded by reality star Kylie Jenner in 2015. Although the brand offers a few cult products, not everything is worth the buzz. If you’re thinking of buying from Kylie Cosmetics, here are a few products to skip, according to customer reviews and performance, as well as value for money.

1. Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits (Older Formulas)

Why You Should Avoid Them:

The original Kylie Lip Kits even went viral, but lots of users said they found the formula too dry. Liquid lipsticks can also crack and flake, especially if your lips aren’t perfectly prepped. The brand has since reformulated some shades, but the old versions are still floating around and aren’t worth the money.

Better Alternative:

For a less-drying, creamier formula try the newer Velvet Lip Kits or Matte Lipsticks. Other brands, such as NYX or Maybelline, have comparable shades for much less.

2. Kylighter in “French Vanilla”

Why You Should Avoid It:

Highlighters are meant to deliver a luminous glow, but Kylighter in “French Vanilla” apparently comes off chunky and too glittery, rather than giving a lit-from-within shine. The fallout is also commonplace, so application can get dirty.

Better Alternative:

For a smoother, finer finish try Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter, or the Anastasia Beverly Hills Amrezy Highlighter if you’re after a more polished sheen.

3. Kylie Cosmetics Glosses (Some Shades)

Why You Should Avoid Them:

While Kylie’s lip glosses are mostly hits, some shades (especially the lighter ones) tend to look streaky or uneven. While the clear gloss is an easy go-to, some shades like "Like" and "So Cute" will need a couple layers for full coverage, so they may not be totally practical.

Better Alternative:

For a pigmented, non-sticky gloss, Tower 28 ShineOn Lip Jelly or Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb have a better consistency and shine.

4. Kyshadow Palettes (Some Editions)

Why You Should Avoid Them:

Kyshadow palettes aren’t all made the same. While there have been hits (like "Bronze Palette"), there have also been misses (aka "Royal Peach", which has been cited for sheer pigmentation and kickback). The matte shades do feel slightly patchy and require heavy layering.

Better Alternative:

If you want a little better quality eyeshadow, I would recommend Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam or Morphe 35O Palette because they are more pigmented and blend better.

5. Kylie Skin Walnut Face Scrub

Why You Should Avoid It:

Physical scrubs that contain walnut shell powder (like this one) are often too rough to the skin and can cause micro-tears and irritation. Dermatologists have to recommend chemical exfoliants rather than harsh scrubs, which can be a more gentle way to treat your skin.

Better Alternative:

For a more efficient and less skin-unfriendly approach, switch to a chemical exfoliant, like Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant or The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution.

6. Kylie Cosmetics (Old Formula) Blushes

Why You Should Avoid Them:

These Kylighters are a vast improvement from the original powder blushes from Kylie Cosmetics which people panned for being extremely powdery and hard to diffuse on the skin. Certain shades were also under-pigmented and needed to be swiped several times to show up on the skin.

Better Alternative:

If you want a blush that’s more blendable and buildable, look no further than the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush or NARS Powder Blush.

And while Kylie Cosmetics does have some great products (the Lip Kits in the new formula, some highlighters), not everything is worth the splurge. If you’re going this route, look for recent reviews and the product’s swatches to make sure you’re buying something good. In most cases, better alternatives from the competition deliver better performance for the same (or lower) price. Would you still shop from Kylie Cosmetics, or do you like another brand?
